The successful team at Tynemouth on the North Sea coast
Morson have continued with their charity fundraising events with fifteen cyclists completing the Coast to Coast Cycle ride. The route, which takes riders over 140 miles across the Pennines from Whitehaven to Tynemouth, is one of the tougher challenges in cycling in the UK with the team having to ensure gale force winds and torrential rain along the route.
The cycle ride was all in aid of the Morson Group's chosen charities for 2008; Debra and St Anns Hospice. Debra is the national charity working on behalf of people in the uk with the genetic skin blistering condition, Epidermolysis Bullosa (EB). St Ann's Hospice cares for thousands of patients with life-threatening illnesses, while supporting their families and carers across Greater Manchester. It is hoped that the Coast 2 Coast challenge will raise in excess of £3,000 for these worthwhile causes.
The route included arduous climbs up Hartside to the site of the highest café in England (580m) and Black Hill where the team had to endure 60mph cross winds on the descent. The relief of all of the cyclists at the end was clear for all to see and the team stuck with tradition by dipping their back wheel in the Irish Sea and their front in the North Sea.
Trip organiser, Andy Hassall added "It was a very tough ride but everyone is so proud we finished it. Thanks though must go to all of the people who made sure the trip happened. On behalf of all the cyclists can we thanks Easirent & Delta Vehicle Hire for the generous donation of the support Minibus and Van. Could I also thank all the Morson staff for their assistance and generous sponsorship and the CEO, Ged Mason for his generous support and for the team on the first day of the ride.
