What a Friend valiant battle in the Grand National

09 April 2011

What a Friend, co-owned by Ged Mason and Sir Alex Ferguson put up a valiant effort in the Grand National, eventually won by the Trevor Hemmings-owned horse, Ballybriggs.

On a scorching day at Aintree, the good ground seemed to favour What a Friend who went out one of the favourites at around 12-1 with most bookmakers.

Although the horse was in the centre of the pack all the way round, the horse was pulled up at Fence 27 after Ballybriggs and the other leaders started to pull away.

After a great jumps season culminating in the Aintree meeting and a fourth place in the Gold Cup, hopes are high that What a Friend can continue his great form next season.
